Warner Robins is a military town, and we treat that as a responsibility.

With Robins Air Force Base at the center of this community, a great many of the families we serve are Air Force, Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Guard and Reserve families. Veterans and their eligible spouses and dependent children have earned burial benefits, and we will help you claim every one your family qualifies for.

The summary below covers what families ask about most. It is not a complete list — eligibility is determined by the VA, and full requirements are published at va.gov. If you are unsure what applies, call (478) 733-6469 and we will look into it with you.

Military Funeral Honors

Every eligible veteran is entitled to military funeral honors, provided at no cost to the family. We make the request on your family's behalf and coordinate the ceremony with the honor guard.

  • A detail to fold and present the United States flag to the next of kin
  • The sounding of Taps
  • A rifle volley, where a detail is available to render it
  • A United States burial flag furnished by the VA
  • Honors at the chapel, at the graveside, or at a national cemetery committal shelter

Honors are available whether your family chooses burial or cremation, and can be arranged alongside a church funeral or a graveside service. Local veterans organizations often take part in rendering them as well.


VA Burial Benefits and Paperwork

Claiming benefits means paperwork, and the paperwork is where families get stuck. Bring us whatever you have — the discharge papers, DD Form 214 or its earlier equivalent, are the key document — and we will complete and file the applications with you.

Benefits that may be available include:

  • A gravesite in a national or state veterans cemetery at no cost to the family, including opening and closing of the grave and perpetual care
  • A government headstone, marker, or bronze medallion
  • A United States burial flag
  • A Presidential Memorial Certificate
  • A burial allowance and plot allowance, in certain service-connected and non-service-connected cases

Ordinary funeral home charges — professional services, transportation, caskets and urns, death certificates, obituaries, flowers — are not covered by the VA, and neither is a plot in a private cemetery. We will be clear about which is which before you decide anything.


National Cemeteries and Government Markers

Georgia veterans have more than one option for interment. The Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville is the closest state veterans cemetery to Warner Robins, and Andersonville National Cemetery lies southwest of us in Sumter County. Eligibility, scheduling, and the available section are determined by the cemetery; we will make the request and coordinate the date on your family's behalf.

If burial is in a private or church cemetery instead, the VA may still furnish a headstone or marker, or a bronze medallion to affix to a privately purchased stone. We will file that application for you and coordinate the setting with the cemetery.
